22% of the top 100 most visited site in Malaysia are from Malaysian.
Most of these site includes established Media Giants and 2 of biggest names of our K.T.M. companies. We were wondering where are the new online sites? There are no social networks and there Web2.0 . Most to most the newest baby is Mudah.com.my which heavily advertise itself online.
Malaysians are very much still stuck in forums like Lowyat.net and we wonder will that change in 2009?

You can also use google adplanner (http://google.com/adplanner) for top traffic. Using it you can view the top Malaysia traffic and I think it’s not Malaysian website it’s Yahoo! .
Comparison to your list, Maybank2u is at the top of the list with 1.8 mil visitor / month.

Why is the word “stuck”?
yc
okay. More like hooked on Forums.
Don’t you think it is not the best way to communicated. Then again that can be a differences in opinions.
@amran that can be still disputed. I think maybe Maybank should be higher but thestar and MalaysiaKini are rather high themselves.
Anyway according to Google ad planner AirAsia is listed as Video Games.
Thanks it is a cool site.
I am surprised that Google Adplanner (http://google.com/adplanner) had such tools to estimate website traffic, which is really great. We all know Alexa is inaccurate, but we just don’t have a better alternative.
I terms of Malaysian Web Success, I think we should leave out service-oriented websites which is used to suppport their offline operations such as Maybank2u, AirAsia, CIMB Clicks.
Just played with Google AdPlanner and found the following:
- thestar.com.my: 1.3mil Unique Visitor per month
- malaysiakini.com: 1.1mil
- mobilefun4u.net: the website seems to be non-functional at this moment, but had 1mil visitors
- mudah.com.my: 1.1mil (the ads is really working)
- cari.com.my: 690K
- lowyat.net: 690K
- lelong.com.my: 510K
Other interesting fact:
- iproperty.com.my: 170K
- mycen.com.my: 200K
- allmalaysia.info: 33K
- kennysia.com: 110K
maybe we can see few new start-up emerging in 2009…
The stats list five mainstream media and two alternative media, and The Star Online (mainstream media) tops Malaysiakini (alternative media), so the argument about New Media versus Old Media is rather moot since when the mainstream media moves into new media, it ends up dominating.
The mainstream media also has funds earned from old media to finance its venture into new media, while alternative media, with some exceptions, only has the new medium to rely on for its survival.
